Hurt Lifting a Patient at Geisinger or in Danville?

Danville Workers’ Compensation for Nurses Hurt During Patient Lifts and Transfers

Nurses in Danville — especially those working long shifts at Geisinger — often end up injured during patient lifts, repositioning, or transfers. Many nurses come to us after being hurt lifting a patient, feeling the sharp pull in their lower back, a shoulder that suddenly gives out, or nerve pain running down a leg. A single moment — a patient buckling, a missing aide, a malfunctioning lift, or a rushed transfer — can leave even the strongest nurse dealing with a serious injury. If you’re a Geisinger nurse injured lifting a patient, you’re not alone. These injuries are some of the most common workers’ compensation claims filed by hospital employees in Danville.

We frequently help nurses who were injured while transferring a patient, hurt during a bariatric assist, or dealing with a rotator cuff or back injury from patient handling tasks. Many reach out asking the same question: “I was injured at Geisinger — what do I do?” The first step is reporting it in writing. The next step is understanding your rights and protecting your workers’ comp claim by knowing how the workers’ compensation process works before deadlines or insurance adjusters complicate things. Whether it’s a Geisinger workers’ comp claim or an injury that happened at another Danville facility, we document what happened, protect your medical care, and ensure your wage loss is correctly calculated.

If lifting or transferring a patient left you injured, call The Belt Law Firm, P.C. at (570) 714-3343. We’ll explain your options and take action to secure the benefits you’re entitled to. Se habla español. Llámenos hoy.

Common Injuries Danville Nurses Suffer During Patient Transfers and Heavy Lifting

Moving patients is a part of the job, but it is also one of the biggest reasons nurses get hurt. All it takes is a patient who leans the wrong way, a boost that requires more strength than expected, or a transfer without the right help. Back pain, disc issues, shoulder and rotator cuff injuries, muscle strains, and knee problems are some of the most frequent workplace injuries nurses experience. Many nurses say the pain started as something small during a lift and grew worse as the shift went on. Other nurses are injured in slip, trip, or fall accidents while rushing between rooms or assisting patients.

At Geisinger and other facilities in the Danville area, these injuries often happen during tasks that feel routine. A heavier assist, a sudden loss of balance, or equipment that is not nearby can put a nurse in a position where the body simply cannot keep up. Once that happens, finishing the shift becomes difficult and returning to full duty can feel impossible without treatment and proper workers’ compensation support.

If you were hurt during a lift or transfer, call The Belt Law Firm, P.C. at (570) 714-3343. We can look at what happened and help you move your claim in the right direction.

Why Patient Lifting Is One of the Top Causes of Injury for Nurses in Health Care

Most nurses can point to a moment when a lift or transfer simply went wrong. A patient leaned back without warning. Some lifting injuries also happen when nurses are responding to combative patients who move unexpectedly. Someone reached for a rail and missed. A boost required more strength than expected. These are the situations that lead to back pain, shoulder problems, and knee injuries — not because the nurse did anything wrong, but because the job asks you to react instantly and absorb the weight.

We hear stories like this all the time from hospital units, rehab centers, and long-term care floors. A task that feels routine turns into a strain because the patient moved differently than they did the day before. That unpredictability is what makes lifting such a common source of injury. Even with good technique and experience, your body can only take so much when the weight shifts in the wrong direction.

If a lift or transfer left you dealing with pain, call The Belt Law Firm, P.C. at (570) 714-3343. We will listen to your story, explain your options, and take action to secure the benefits you deserve.

How Short Staffing and Missing Equipment in Danville Hospitals Turn Routine Transfers into Serious Injuries for Nurses

Anyone who has worked on a busy hospital floor knows how quickly a safe transfer can fall apart when the right support is not there. You reach for a gait belt that should have been stocked, or you start a boost because the extra hands never arrived. In those moments, it does not take much for a patient to shift their weight or lose balance, and your body takes the full impact.

We hear from nurses who say the injury happened during an ordinary task: helping a patient stand, correcting a lean, or guiding someone from bed to chair. When staffing is thin or equipment is missing, these “routine” moves ask more of your back and shoulders than they should. That split second is often all it takes to end up with pain that follows you long after the shift ends, leading to time off work and the risk of denials and delays if the workers’ comp claim is not properly handled.

If you need help getting your workers’ compensation benefits started, call The Belt Law Firm, P.C. at (570) 714-3343. Many common questions about medical care, lost wages, and reporting deadlines are answered in our workers’ compensation FAQ.

On a professional level- Mr Belt was honest, answered all my questions and I knew what to expect. Very knowledgeable about the law. On a personal level- I hadn’t slept the night before the case and I had a bit of anxiety beforehand. Mr. Belt sat in the seating area with me and talked about coffee places. I was cool as a cucumber when it was time to go in. Bottom line is… I’d put all my trust in Mr. Belt and you could too. Also, the women that worked in the front office were always very kind on the phone and in person.

After extensive research, I decided to hire Timothy Belt as my workers’ compensation lawyer based on favorable reviews. Unfortunately, this decision proved to be a serious mistake. I anticipated that he would offer proper guidance and maintain effective communication, which are crucial responsibilities of a lawyer. His deficiency to do so resulted in significant financial strain and emotional distress. Due to his lack of effort and poor performance in my case, the best decision was to terminate his services and seek a new counsel. The difference was extremely noticeable and resulted in a fair outcome.

I just met with Timothy today. (Eric A.) He was very kind, very very knowledgeable about my unique circumstance and I decided to not continue my case in filing an appeal. He had a check in hand for close to a grand, I offered to pay him for his time as it seemed a bad decision to continue my unemployment claim with his knowledge on the subject, although he certainly would have. There were many hurdles, mostly my fault. I would have only ended up with a couple hundred bucks if we won. He was very very clear about that. I offered to pay him for his time today and for emails back and forth, and he just said, we 'll consider this a consultation at no charge. I can't guarantee that to everyone. But he continued to hear my plight after that and said he felt bad for the position I was in. Even gave his thoughts on the matter. Having had to work with many law firms over my years here on earth, I was very impressed with his knowledge and willing to do what he could to help. Thank you Timothy Belt! Much appreciated.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation

If the injury is not reported within 120 days, you will lose the right to file for compensation. You cannot legally be fired for reporting a work injury.
The employer reports your injury to their workers’ compensation insurer. If the insurance carrier accepts your claim, they will calculate any compensation owed and make payment. If your claim has not been accepted within 21 days of providing notice of the injury to your employer, your claim is likely denied.
If you receive a notice of denial, you can file a Claim Petition with the Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Bureau. Your Petition will be assigned to a Workers’ Compensation Judge. The Judge will schedule hearings, and both sides will be provided the opportunity to present evidence. If the claim is not voluntarily resolved, the judge will issue a Decision.
In most cases you have up to three years from the date of injury to file a Claim Petition.
